Moonstone is from the Feldspar Group, which has two subcategories: potassium feldspars and plagioclases. Moonstone falls in the potassium subcategory.
It can be colorless, yellow, gray, peach, green, blue or have a pale sheen. It is known mostly for its luster and can give off a rainbow effect. With a hardness of 6, moonstone is sensitive to pressure.
Deposits include Sri Lanka, Burma, Brazil, India, Madagascar and the United States.
