A Step-By-Step Guide To Selecting and Co-Creating Customized Jewelry

1. Consultation

The customer sets an appointment with llyn to discuss the personality of the individual wearer. She then determines if the piece should be designed from scratch or if existing pieces of jewelry or gemstones can be incorporated into a new design. Typically, llyn will do a quick thumbnail sketch of the initial design ideas at the consultation. An estimate is given at this time.

2. Deposit

Once the client is comfortable that llyn understands the desired outcome for the custom piece,a non-refundable deposit is made.

3. Rendering

Fine-tuning the details of the approved sketch is done through a 3-D computer generated color photograph called a rendering. From this, the client can clearly visualize what the final piece will look like and determine if there are any changes necessary before a model is made.

4. Wax or Metal Modeling

For certain custom pieces a wax or metal model is created, allowing the client to literally try it on for size. This step is not always necessary but may be preferred if a design is particularly intricate or the client wants more assurance that the piece is what they envisioned.

5. Presentation & Appraisal

The process, depending on the intricacy of the piece, takes from three to twelve weeks from approval to finish. As an added value, llyn provides an appraisal and photograph of each piece for insurance and safekeeping.
